Seeking input on Permanent 20 x 20 m and RECCE plot methodologies

Landcare Research (LCR) has been contracted by the Department of Conservation (DOC), to carry out a survey of end-users of RECCE and Permanent Plot methods. These methods are widely used by DOC, local government, scientists, students and others to describe and monitor changes in indigenous vegetation in New Zealand, and such data forms a large part of the NVS databank.

There is a need to revise the protocols described in the plot manuals, to provide clarity on aspects which have resulted in confusion in the past, as well as to ensure that the methods meet the goals of end-users. The manuals can be viewed here.

What we are asking of you:

We wish to hear your views if you have ever collected data following the methods outlined in the plot manuals, or have used such data. A questionnaire has been developed, which will help inform the plot manual revision. Other comments or ideas regarding the content of the revised plot manuals are very welcome. Please return the completed questionnaire or any comments via email to Jenny Hurst or Ph. 03 325 6700 ext. 3740 at Landcare Research by 31 May.
