Notes: Manaaki Whenua have recently completed a pilot study in Northland to test the integration of two terrestrial typologies one expert-based and the other quantitative for a next generation system for use for conservation, RMA reform, global reporting, etc. The report included around 500 plots that stored in NVS which have had ecosystem types allocated to them.

The Northland pilot study was recommended as part of an initial review of existing terrestrial typologies, available here ("Road map to the existing typology for terrestrial ecosystems").
