Notes: The Manaaki Whenua – Landcare Research Group of the Bioeconomy Science Institute prepared a report for the Department of Conservation assessing the organisation’s readiness to use the Global Biodiversity Information Facility (GBIF). The report, Darwin Core and GBIF Readiness Assessment, complements a parallel assessment for regional councils, and highlights opportunities for DOC to mobilise its nationally significant biodiversity datasets through GBIF’s open, federated infrastructure. The assessment identifies benefits for DOC including improved interoperability, support for Te Mana o te Taiao, and strengthened national and international biodiversity reporting. It recommends working with GBIF New Zealand to pilot mobilisation of Tier 1 monitoring and invasive species data, including vegetation plot data currently held in NVS. Read the report here
